DKH Counting Stars "Cait"
"Cait" is a 2013 traditional Irish Sporthorse (TIH) mare out of a palomino Jockey Club registered Thoroughbred mare, RFF Golden Angel (by Glimmer Please) and by Class 1 Irish Draught stallion Jaunty Star (Alice's Diamond Slipper). Cait is registered, microchipped and "Approved" as an Irish Draught Sporthorse mare with the Irish Draught Horse Society of Canada making her offspring by a Class 1 or 2 Irish Draught stallion eligible for "grade up" inspection in Canada. She stands a large 16.3 hh. Cait will do best in a partnership with consistent work but does not need a 5 days a week program. Excellent 5* home required for this special girl!

DKH Counting Stars, "Cait", is available to an approved home, competition or recreational. She is suitable for a confident rider, youth or adult...well supported amateur or a pro! She is a lot of horse power!

Show jumper, eventer, dressage partner...ride her, breed her, compete her.

$ 45,000 plus GST for Canadian buyers (US buyers exempt from GST). Negotiable to great homes for a great match! We are also open to creative purchase agreements and co-ownerships with homes in western Canada, ideally Alberta.

Cait's Story and some of her background:

Cait's sire, Jaunty Star, affectionately known as "Jim" is a Class 1 imported Irish Draught stallion who has been awarded Silver Merit in eventing based on his competition record. He stands 17 hh and has a kind, people pleasing attitude.

Brought slowly back to work by the talented Kolina Crowe after being started as a 4 year old and turned out to mature, Cait's was our young daughters secondary Pony Club mount. She took her job very seriously, and safely packed Megan around in dressage and jumping at the 2'-2'3" foot levels. She proved immediately the sound temperment of the Irish Draught and to be HONEST and STRAIGHTFORWARD to fences, able to "take a joke" and continue on unfazed. That summer, she was bred via frozen semen from Class 1 Irish Draught stallion In Shining Armour and foaled a great chestnut colt, who we call LilyWings Wizard Shining "Bow" in June 2019. In October 2019, Cait was also awarded Approved sporthorse status at breed inspections by Horse Sport Ireland inspectors.

As a 7 year old, Cait came into real development and work with Kayla Bushell of Rosebush Equestrian, the intention of having a full competition season in western Canada. Unfortunately, Covid-19 had negative impacts on the show scene but we took advantage with serious dressage, jumping and cross country schooling. Cait debuted on the eventing scene in August, placing 2nd in open Pre-Entry (Beginner Novice) on her dressage score of 33.6. She finished the short season at the end of September, moving up to Entry division (BN/N) with a strong showing at the Minds Eye Derby.

Cait has continued up the eventing levels. In February 2022, she travelled with the Shank family to train and compete in California at Training level. Upon her return, she won the Beaumont Horse Trials Entry Division with an adult amateur. It was an exciting day for the pair! Christine piloted her well through all the phases!! We were so THRILLED for them both and glad to be there to cheer them on!

In June 2022, Cait headed to beautiful BC coast to begin a season lease with a youth show jumping rider. They had a great season gaining experience at the 1.0-1.15 levels in training and competition, including at Thunderbird.

March 2023: Cait has now returned home and available for a new partner. Until sold, Cait will begin the season continuing schooling dressage, show jumping and cross country questions (if spring ever arrives here in Alberta...) with the intent to start the season with Megan, youth amateur, at Entry level. We are looking forward to taking the opportunity offer Megan to have a well schooled mount to help her rider education!

June 2023: Cait will be competing with a new partner for the 2023 eventing season. They will start at EC level EV85 (previously Entry) and aim to finish the season at EV90 (previously EC PreTraining).
